Privacy policy

Last updated: October 2026

PartyPlay is a free website for playing party games with friends. We collect as little as we can, we don't sell your data, and we don't show ads. This page explains what we store and why.

What we collect when you play

You can play without an account. When you join a room, the game server receives:

  • the nickname and avatar you choose;
  • what you do in the game: chat messages, guesses, answers, votes, drawings and voice clips (in games that use the microphone);
  • technical data needed to run the connection, such as your IP address and browser type.

Playing with strangers

In public rooms, the players you're matched with see your nickname, avatar, chat messages and what you do in the game. Don't share personal details there.

How long we keep it

Rooms, chat, drawings and voice clips live in the server's memory and disappear when the room closes. We keep a record of finished games (which game, settings, player count and final scores) to improve the site and show popular games. While a room is open, its state may also be saved to our database so a game can survive a server restart; it is deleted when the room closes.

Server logs, which can contain IP addresses, are kept for a short period for security and debugging, and then deleted.

Accounts

If you create an account we store your username, display name, avatar, an optional e-mail address, a securely hashed password, your preferred language, your game statistics and any content packs you create. You can delete your account at any time from your profile.

Reports and moderation

If you report a player, we store the report (reason, optional details, the room and the players involved) so moderators can review it. We may restrict players who break the rules.

Stored on your device

We use your browser's local storage — not tracking cookies — to remember your nickname, avatar, language, theme, sound settings, recently played games and a token that lets you rejoin a room after a refresh. You can clear it at any time in your browser settings.

Your browser also remembers which game guides and tips you've already seen, so they don't show again.

Error reports

When a page crashes, your browser sends us the error message, the page address, the game being played and your browser type, so we can fix the bug.

Services we use

  • Maps in map games are loaded from OpenStreetMap and CARTO, which receive your IP address.
  • Some images (flags, emoji) are loaded through our server from public image libraries.
  • If error tracking is turned on, server error reports are sent to our error-tracking provider (Sentry).

Children

PartyPlay is meant for players aged 13 and over. Younger players should only play with a parent or guardian. Chat has a profanity filter, but players can still say things you may not like — please report them.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your data, or to object to how we use it. Contact us and we'll help. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
